Advanced Material Development said it successfully raised £2 million in a new equity funding round to help fuel its growth plans and pioneering work in nanotechnology.
The new cash, which was injected from a small consortium of investors, will be used to expand investment in research & development, accelerate the commercialisation of its nanotech solutions and strengthen the company's global presence, it said, including attracting top talent and strengthening collaborations with industry partners.
AMD said the capital injection reflects "growing confidence" from investors in its technological progress and its potential to revolutionise various industries, such as the collaboration with NASA’s jet propulsion lab on an upcoming Jupiter mission, its contribution to battery research as part of the Faraday programme and work on smart packaging with FTSE 250-listed Essentra.
"We are thrilled to have secured this funding, which will enable us to further advance our capabilities and bring transformative solutions to market," said AMD chief executive John Lee.
"We are grateful for the trust placed in us by our investors and remain committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in this exciting field."
Nanotechnology is seen as having the potential to transform sectors from healthcare to defence, from energy to electronics, and more.
Last month, for example, the company flagged its development of a range of highly conductive nanocarbon-based inks to provide sustainable and composatable alternatives to traditional metal-based ultra-high frequency (UHF) RFID technologies.
As part of the InnovateUK-funded SecQuAL consortium, AMD has produced a series of digital and intelligent packaging demonstrators highlighting consumer interactivity and backend MRP functionality, simulating production, distribution and sales environments through combinations of QR codes, barcodes and UHF RFID.
