US jobs data to lead proceedings on a quiet Friday

There is almost nothing in the City calendar for investors but traders will be eyeing the later US jobs report.

Last month, the NFP showed a very strong rise in jobs numbers of 339,000 and economists expect another strong month.

“We do expect to see a moderation this month,” said economist James Knightley at ING, pencilling in something closer to the 225,000 mark, with average hourly earnings seen softening a touch with another 0.3% month-on-month print, which would bring the annual rate of wage growth down to 4.2%.

Wage growth will also be in focus.

In the UK, Halifax's house price index will provide further insight into the market after Nationwide data saw drops year-on-year for June.

Trading Economics predicts the Halifax index to drop by 1.7% year-on-year.
