China Airlines has penned an order for eight new Boeing 787 Dreamliners at the Paris Air show, according to reports, continuing a bid to replace the carriers’ ageing Airbus Group (EPA:AIR) fleet.
Taiwan-based China Airlines has also converted an order for six 787-9s to the larger 787-10 variants, online publication International Flight Network reported.
The order follows an October 2022 deal between the pair for new jets to replace China Airlines’ Airbus A330 fleet, with the carrier now waiting on 24 Dreamliners from The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA).
Boeing also confirmed an order for eight smaller 737-9 jets from Air Algérie, adding to the airline’s 55-plane strong fleet, which includes Airbus A320’s.
A memorandum of understanding was also signed between Boeing and Air Algérie for two converted 737-800 freighters.
"The 737-9 is ideally suited for Air Algérie's regional network,” Boeing commercial chief Stan Deal said, “freighters will enable Air Algerie to […] expand beyond its passenger business,” meanwhile.
Larger Boeing 787s can be powered by either Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LSE:RR.) Trent 1000 or General Electric (NYSE:GE) GEnx engines, while Air Algérie's fleet will run on CFM International LEAP-1B units.
The deals are Boeing’s first of the Paris Air Show, which began on Monday and marked a busy day of dealmaking for rival Airbus.
