General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) (GM) has signed up to use Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s electric vehicle (EV) charging network weeks after Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) agreed a similar deal.
“This collaboration is a key part of our strategy and an important next step in quickly expanding access to fast chargers for our customers," said GM chief executive Mary Barra in a statement.
“Not only will it help make the transition to electric vehicles more seamless for our customers, but it could help move the industry toward a single North American charging standard.”
As a part of the agreement, GM will incorporate Tesla’s connector design into its electric cars from 2025, while owners of a GM EV already will be able to use 12,000 Tesla Superchargers points in North America from next year using an adapter.
The US auto giant already has its own ongoing EV charging programme comprising 134,000 Level 2 chargers and fast chargers through its Ultium Charge 360 initiative and mobile apps.
