Kromek teams up with CT specialist to work on next-gen tech for security and medical markets

Kromek Group PLC (AIM:KMK) has agreed to work on integrating its cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT) based detector technology into medical imaging and security scanners with CT scan specialist Analogic Corporation.

Continuing its busy week, the AIM-listed company said the use of its CZT-based technology would be integrated with US-based Analogic’s detector designs to build photon counting computed tomography (PCCT) applications with optimal detection performance.

CZT-based PCCT detectors improve image quality and reduce radiation compared to conventional CT detectors, Kromek said.

In medical imaging this could allow early detection of life-threatening illness such as breast cancer or heart disease, while in security screening it can more accurately identify prohibited and dangerous items within luggage.

As the collaboration progresses toward commercialisation, Kromek said it will ensure production capability is available to support Analogic's PCCT demand.

This follows a “game-changing" seven-year contract won yesterday with a top medical imaging manufacturer, US$1mln of new medical imaging orders the month before and both £2.5mln funding for breast cancer screening and a repeat US government order in January.
