UK inflation figures delivered a shock rebound last month when most were expecting it to fall and the Bank of England, for one, will be hoping there is no repeat this time.
The consumer price index bounced to 10.4% in February from 10.1% in January, when the market had been looking for a fall to 9.9%.
Core CPI, which excludes fuel and food, was 6.2% from 5.8%, while the CPIH index, which includes owner-occupier housing costs, rose by 9.2% year-on-year, against 8.8% in the prior month.
Over in the US, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) quarterly update is arguably the most intriguing result due.
Shares in the carmaker have dropped by more than 44% in the last twelve months, suffering from headwinds like supply chain issues and a softer US market.
The stock has bounced more than three-quarters of its value in 2023 but Elon Musk’s company is expecting to report a drop in profits after the market closes in the US on Wednesday evening (UK).
American bank Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) will also provide a trading update and British American Tobacco PLC (LSE:BATS) has its annual general meeting.
