Tesco slashes Clubcard reward vouchers

Tesco has slashed its Clubcard reward vouchers’ meaning customers will be spending less for more.

Customers can use the vouchers either in stores or triple the value of them by exchanging them to access reward partners, such as Thorpe Park, Pizza Express and Cineworld.

Originally, Tesco customers could boost their points by up to four times, but this was cut to a maximum of three times in 2018, another move which sparked some anger towards the FTSE 100 supermarket.

As of June 14, Clubcard vouchers will only be worth two times their value if exchanged at any of Tesco’s reward partners.

The FTSE 100 retailer informed customers of the decision via email and on its website.

“From 14 June 2023, when you exchange your Tesco Clubcard vouchers for a Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner code, they’ll be worth 2x their value. You’ll still get up to 3x the value until 13 June 2023,” the website said.

Tesco isn’t the first retailer to make changes to their loyalty cards in the last couple of weeks.

Earlier this month, Boots told customers it would be slashing the monetary value of points on its loyalty card by 25%.

From May, shoppers would be earning 3p for every £1 they spend as opposed to 4p.

Walgreens Boots Alliance, the US firm which owns Boots, said it made the decision to alter the points system in response to customer feedback.

Instead, customers will be able to save 10% in-store on 6,000 of Boots’ own-brand products.
