Bentley races after Rolls-Royce to report record year as customisations drivie sales

Luxury car manufacturers Bentley and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars raced to record 2022s with customisations driving sales.

Bentley, owned by Volkswagen Group (XETRA:VOW), delivered 15,174 vehicles last year, breaking the 15,000 barrier for the first time in its history.

That represented a 4% increase on the cars sold a year earlier.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BMW, also boasted a record year, delivering more than 6,000 vehicles for the first time ever.

The British manufacturers touched on the growing significance of bespoke or personalised sales in aiding a bumper year.

Rolls-Royce reported its “highest value bespoke commissions” in its 118-year history which reflected its “position as a true house of luxury.”

Clients were willing to pay around €500,000 for a unique vehicle from Rolls-Royce, with the Middle East the leader for customised cars, a sign perhaps of cash to burn for the oil players in the region.

Bentley pointed out that the increasing demand for personalisation, alongside new model introductions, was behind the “significant achievement.”

Both companies reported growth in key regions, including the US, Middle East and Asia Pacific.
