Filtronic has won a $68.1 million (£51.3 million) order from SpaceX, the largest it has received from Elon Musk's rocket and satellite company.

The contract covers Filtronic's Cerus E-band solid state power amplifiers, which boost radio signals sent between satellites and the ground.

E-band refers to a range of very high radio frequencies that can carry large amounts of data.

The order follows a $62.5 million contract for the same technology announced in August 2025.

Filtronic expects to deliver most of the new order during its 2028 financial year.

The company said the contract underpins the board's expectations for that year and gives it clearer sight of future revenue.

Filtronic designs and makes radio frequency (RF) equipment for the space, aerospace, defence and telecoms markets.

Why GaN matters

The amplifiers are built using gallium nitride (GaN), a semiconductor material that is replacing the gallium arsenide (GaAs) used in older designs.

GaN delivers more power, runs more efficiently and copes better with heat.

Filtronic said those qualities give it an edge in demanding uses such as low Earth orbit satellite communications, where networks like SpaceX's Starlink operate.

The company said the repeat order showed its proprietary GaN technology was gaining commercial traction.

Partnership deepens

Nat Edington, chief executive, called the order another significant milestone for Filtronic.

He said it extended the company's order visibility over the next couple of years.

"This order provides further evidence of the growing importance of GaN technology in high-frequency communications and reinforces Filtronic's position at the leading edge of this transition," Edington said.

He added that the deal gave significant revenue visibility into 2028 and beyond.

It also marked a further step in the company's relationship with SpaceX, he said.
