Top level domains (such as .com, .net and .org) are organized and controlled by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Top Level Domain Holdings welcomes ICANN’s move to allow web domains in non-Latin script
Top Level Domain Holdings Ltd (AIM: TLDH) has welcomed the latest move by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to authorise the creation of new top-level domains (TLDs), or web addresses, in non-Latin scripts.
It said the move will allow countries around the world for the first time ever to create their own TLD - the equivalent to .com, .net, or .uk - without using the Roman alphabet, but their respective own languages.
Top Level Domain Holdings chairman and CEO Fred Krueger commented: “We congratulate the ICANN board for authorizing non-Latin top-level domains, the first meaningful expansion of the Internet namespace and a truly global benefit to internet users.”
Top Level Domain Holdings intends to make targeted investments in the TLD space, focusing on both infrastructure technologies and specific top level domains.
