The principal activity of Greatland Gold plc is to explore for and develop natural resources, with a focus on gold. The Company operates in Australia where it has three projects covering a total area of approximately 450sq km. The projects are located in Tasmania and Western Australia. The Firetower project in Tasmania, is the company’s primary focus. It has high-grade gold mineralisation at surface and drill intercepts up to 30g/t gold. Mineralisation. The second project of Warrentinna lies in the north east of Tasmania and covers three historic goldfield with numerous old working. High grade gold has been identified in these areas. A third project of Lackman Rock in Western Australia is prospective for both gold and nickel sulphides.
Greatland Gold gets title to new Western Australia project named Ernest Giles
Greatland Gold PLC (AIM: GGP) said the Western Australian government has granted it the title to the mineral rights for a large new gold project, named Ernest Giles, two contiguous tenements covering 686 square kilometres in the desert 250 kilometres north east of Laverton.
The Ernest Giles region hosts the recently discovered Tropicana gold prospect, operated by AngloGold Ashanti Australia Ltd, which lies about 200 kilometres to the south of the Ernest Giles project.
Specific gold targets have already been interpreted by the company from existing geophysical and geochemical data. Such targets are to be tested with a relatively small number of reverse circulation holes for which Greatland estimates an outlay of A$400,000.
Field activities are scheduled to commence at Ernest Giles in the coming months with drilling of targets envisaged before the end of 2009.
The company also reported that the Western Australian government has granted it the mineral title to the Lackman Rock tenement. The Lackman Rock project is located in the southern goldfields of Western Australia and covers an area of approximately 200 square kilometres. The region is host to gold deposits totalling over 1 million ounces at Bounty, Marvel Loch, Westonia and Southern Cross and is also host to nickel sulphide mines at Forrestania and Lake Johnston.
Initial field activities will include mapping and geochemical sampling. These activities are scheduled to commence in the later parts of 2009.
At the Firetower project in Tasmania, drilling is scheduled to commence in August 2009, subject to the local government approving the work programs which it expects to occur shortly.
At Warrentina in Tasmania, Greatland expects the planned program of reverse circulation drilling in the Derby North area to begin early August.
At East Lisle, field work on several gold targets will commence during the third quarter of 2009.
