Leni Gas & Oil (LON:LGO) has started drilling its first new Goudron development well less than a fortnight after getting the green light.
The well, initially named H-18E J-7, is targeting known productive sandstone intervals in the Lower Cruse at a depth of 2,800 feet sub-sea.
It is the first well to be drilled on the Goudron Field, Trinidad, in more than three decades, and “spudding” – a term derived from a Middle English word (spudde) for a short knife – took place at a minute past midnight (Trinidad time) on Monday, 28 April.
Production from Goudron currently comes from 70 reactivated wells whose operations will “largely unaffected” by the drilling.
The well has now been officially designated as GY-664.
Shares in Leni Gas were up 1% at 0.98p in late morning trading.
