Security specialist Westminster Group (LON:WSG) has secured a new €350,000 airport contract for East Africa.
Its technology division won the award, which will enable an "East African Drug Enforcement Agency" to screen people passing through airports for drugs and illegal substances.
The contract relates to three airports.
Westminster's chief executive Peter Fowler told investors: "I am pleased our technology division has again proved the value of our extensive international presence and reputation by assisting this new governmental client to solve an important and urgent security issue within their airports."
He added: "We are also pleased to be providing security services to three more international airports and see considerable growth potential for both our technology and our managed services divisions, not just in the country concerned but also the region in general where we are actively pursuing a number of sizeable project opportunities."
The finalisation of today's deal extends Westminster's reach into the African continent. It is already supplying security solutions to a number of airports around the world including a 15 year managed services contract for an airport in West Africa.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, the company expanded its thriving aviation services business by acquiring airport security specialist GXS Aviation.
GXS provides airport security consultancy services worldwide to airlines such as Air Canada and Zoom Airlines, including security operative and supervisor training, and training in dealing with dangerous goods.
Yesterday, Fowler met the first president of Zambia Dr Kenneth Kaunda, who served between 1964 and 1991, and who played a key role in the liberation struggles in the southern African region.
