Salamander Energy cuts 2012 production target

Salamander Energy (LON:SMDR) told investors today that the construction of the Bualuang Bravo platform in Thailand is due to complete on schedule and on budget by the end of the month.

However, the company said that the platform will be ready for development drilling from end-October, around six weeks later than initially planned.

As a result, Salamander has decided to trim its average daily production forecast for 2012 to between 10,500 and 11,500 barrels of oil per day (bopd) from 12,000-13,000 bopd previously.

In the meantime, the Atwood Mako rig is expected to be on location in the first week of September to complete a short development drilling programme from the Bualuang Alpha Platform.

In October, the rig will drill two exploration wells in the Greater Bualuang acreage, including the Bualuang Northwest Terrace prospect.

The rig will then move to the newly installed Bravo platform for an extended programme of development drilling on the Bualuang field and the East Terrace.

“We are pleased to report that the construction of the Bualuang Bravo Platform has been completed on schedule and within budget,” said chief executive of Salamander James Menzies.

“With the important milestone of the necessary environmental approval now received, we are able to schedule the installation of the Platform and firm up our work programme with the Atwood Mako rig.

“Elsewhere operations are progressing to plan. The remainder of 2012 is shaping up to be a lively operational period for the company.”
