Sirius Exploration's major interest is in the recent acquisition of Dakota Salts. Dakota Salts has some 5,000 acres of exploration leases in the Williston Basin in North Dakota covering known potash and salt deposits.
Results from Sirius Minerals' Dakota salts project confirms continuity of potash beds
Sirius Minerals (LON:SXX) today reported the assay results from its wholly owned Dakota Salts project, which confirmed the continuity of the Saskatchewan potash beds into North Dakota and in the project.
The total intersection from the initial drill hole is interpreted to include the White Bear marker bed followed by 15.05 metres of interbed halite with 8.69 metres of Esterhazy Member mineralisation at the base.
The total Esterhazy Member intersection was 8.5 metres with an average grade of 11.8 percent potassium with peak values of 41 percent potassium and 10.3 percent carnallite.
The potash mineralisation is in the form of both sylvite and carnallite which is similar to Esterhazy Member type mineralisation seen in the Saskatchewan Prairie Evaporite Formation, said Sirius.
The company is now working with its technical team to properly analyse and interpret these results to plan the next phase of its exploration programme, which will likely include additional seismic lines, geochemical and regional studies prior to initiating further drilling.
