Morning news wrap: BP, BG Group, Reckitt Benckiser, Imperial Tobacco, Lloyds, Aviva

In the FTSE 100, consumer goods company Reckitt Benckiser (LON:RB) said net revenues in the third quarter rose 11% to £2.11 billion, while earnings per share jumped 18% to 58.4 pence.

Imperial Tobacco (LON:IMT) released its final results today, reporting a 6% rise in revenues to £28.18 billion. Pre-tax profits soared 124% to £2.12 billion.

Oil and gas producer BG Group (LON:BG) said earnings per share in 3Q rose 27% year on year to 28.9 cents. The group has also announced a 2.7 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) upgrade to estimates of gross resources for the Tupi, Iracema, and Guará fields in the Santos Basin, offshore Brazil.

BP (LON:BP) made a US$1.8 billion profit in the third quarter after posting a US$17.15 billion loss in 2Q.

Part-nationalised bank Lloyds (LON:LLOY) said that core income growth, margin improvement, integration savings, funding progress and balance sheet reduction all remained on target and that it was confident that it would deliver a good financial performance for the current financial year.

Insurer Aviva (LON:AV) reported worldwide sales of £35.9 billion for the first nine months of 2010, marking a 5% year on year improvement.

On AIM, Mariana Resources (LON:MARL) said that drill rig has returned to Calandria Norte to follow up high grade vein targets. Second drill rig scheduled to arrive mid-November to fast-track exploration drilling at the Las Calandrias project in Argentina.

Chaarat Gold Holdings (LON:CGH) said that its 4 million ounce (Moz) Chaarat gold project in Kyrgyzstan is now separated into two distinct projects, the Tulkubash project and the Main project. The Tulkubash project will be accelerated with the potential for mining to commence in Q4 2011.

Lonrho (LON:LONR) released a strong trading statement today, reporting a turnover of £33.6 million and pre-tax profits of £2.9 million for the fourth quarter.

African Aura Mining (LON:AAAM) has delineated what it said was an encouraging target at its Ndablama gold prospect in the company's Bea Mountain mining licence in western Liberia.

Desire Petroleum (LON:DES) said that clean out of the 14/15-1Z sidetrack well has not proved possible due to mechanical failure of the wellbore and it will therefore not be possible to obtain any wireline logging data from this well. The current well will be plugged and abandoned prior to moving the drilling rig to a new location on the Rachel prospect.

Petroceltic International (LON:PCI) has appointed Tom Hickey as Corporate Development Director.

Ascent Resources (LON:AST) has appointed Scott Richardson Brown as a non-executive Director with immediate effect.
