Gamers of any level will be able to compete in the preliminary phase of the tournament, through what is called the Gfinity Challenger Series.
In this first phase players will compete for ranking points which at the end of the series will see top players become eligible for the Gfinity Elite Draft, where they can be selected by professional eSports teams for the full Gfinity Elite Series league.
The tournament proper will take place at Gfinity’s eSports Arena in London and it starts in April.
The Gfinity Elite Series will be broadcast, via online streaming, and it is expected to attract an active audience of eSport enthusiasts, and in turn generate sponsorship and broadcasting rights for Gfinity.
According to the company the tournament will create a unique set of sponsorship, media and franchise opportunities for potential partners seeking access to the rapidly growing and valuable UK eSports population - which Gfinity estimates at some 6.5mln people, primarily men under the age of 35.
Gfinity chief executive, Neville Upton said: "As the gamers' champion, Gfinity is excited to be launching the Gfinity Elite Series.
“The UK has some of the best talent in eSports and Gfinity Elite Series gives them the opportunity to hone their skills and take on some of the best from around the world.
“This is what the UK eSports community has been waiting for and we can't wait to take this truly global."
