Sound Energy PLC (LON:SOU) has told investors that the second well at its Tendrara gas project in Morocco has been drilled through the salt cap to the second casing point.
The Tendrara 7 well (TE-7) has now been drilled to a measured vertical depth of 2,203 metres, and casing has now been set and cemented at the top of the Triassic Lower Salt formation.
The European and African-focused upstream company says it will now drill towards the third and final casing point, directly above the reservoir.
The latest drilling is taking place around 1.6 kilometres from the site of TE-6 and will go down to 3,440 metres, before the drill bit is steered at an 88 degree angle into the targeted TAGI reservoir to provide a horizontal drain of between 600 and 900 metres.
The plan is to then test the well for 70 days to give a comprehensive read-out from TE-7.
Work on Tendrara 7 got underway at the end of August, with the aim of assessing the potential of block ahead of putting together a field development plan.
It follows on from the successful TE-6 well which confirmed a significant gas discovery, and returned better than expected results.
Shares closed higher on Wednesday at 76p.
