Morning news wrap: Sage Group, BAE Systems, Compass Group, Liberty Intl, Next, Xstrata

In the FTSE 100, defence and aerospace systems manufacturer BAE Systems (LSE: BA) said that trading from 1 January to 4 May 2010 had been consistent with management expectations and the group continued to anticipate growth for three of its four operating groups.

Software developer Sage Group (LSE: SGE) reported its interims today, saying that revenues slid 4% to £718.9 million. Support contract renewal rates were maintained at 81%.

Caterer Compass Group (LSE: CPG) has acquired Caterine Restauration S.A.S from Industries & Finances Partenaires S.A.S.

Commercial property company Liberty International (LSE: LII) said that Capital Shopping Centres' occupancy had been maintained at 98% and the company had seen a much lower level of retailer failures than the first quarter of 2009.

Clothing retailer Next (LSE: NXT) said that total sales in the 13 week period to 1 May 2010 rose 4.1%.

Base metal miner Xstrata (LSE: XTA) said that ferrochrome production rose by more than 300% and producers achieved a 35% increase in the second quarter European benchmark price to $1.36/lb.

In AIM, Latin American precious metal miner Minera IRL (AIM: MIRL) said that pre-feasibility study for its Ollachea project is on track for completion during the first quarter of 2011.

Philippines focused gold producer Medusa Mining (AIM&ASX: MML) said that it had discovered a new outcropping porphyry copper-gold target named Usa.
