Twitter app store shunning fears quelled after Musk and Apple meeting

Elon Musk has allayed fears that Twitter Inc will axed from the Apple Inc App Store after a meeting with Tim Cook.

Elon Musk has allayed fears that Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) will axed from the Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store after a meeting with its chief executive, Tim Cook.

Following the meeting, Musk tweeted saying the two had “resolved the misunderstanding”.

Good conversation. Among other things, we resolved the misunderstanding about Twitter potentially being removed from the App Store. Tim was clear that Apple never considered doing so.

Earlier this week, Musk lashed out at Apple, suggesting it had reduced its advertising on the social media in a row over free speech that saw him accuse the company of censorship.

While the argument seemed very one-sided in terms of what was said publicly, Twitter’s reinstatement of the likes of Donald Trump and Kanye West, amid the granting of a “general amnesty” to previously banned accounts, has caused serious concern among critics.

Patching over the disagreement quickly was potentially a crucial move for the social media platorm, with a former senior employee recently outlining how Apple’s threat of expelling Twitter from its app store would spell disaster for the platform.

Yoel Roth, former head of Twitter’s trust and safety team warned billions would quit using the site if it was no longer featured on Apple devices.

Roth added that Musk, despite his very public desire to, was also heavily constrained by a need to protect advertising revenue when making changes to Twitter’s content moderations, also having to carefully avoid fines by regulators which would see the company face hefty financial burdens.
