SpectrumX Holdings UK Ltd said it will become a licensed supplier to the NHS for its hand sanitiser product, Spectricept Care+ Hands, a novel broad-spectrum disinfectant that contains hypochlorous acid (HOCl) as its active ingredient.
The UK-based healthcare and pharmaceutical company said it has officially been informed by a letter of intent from NHS Supply Chain that it will be awarded a tender framework agreement to become an approved supplier.
SpectrumX's approved supplier status will allow NHS healthcare facilities to purchase the patent-pending hand sanitiser, with the product listed on the hand hygiene and associated products and services tender from May 2023.
The framework agreement will have an initial term of 36 months with an option to extend incrementally for up to a total period of 48 months.
SpectrumX said NHS Supply Chain, which is the logistics organisation that manages the sourcing, delivery, and supply of healthcare and food products to the NHS and other healthcare organisations in England and Wales, judged its application favourably for its pricing, product efficacy and compliance with the NHS social model, which focuses on sustainability and supply chain to help the NHS meet its net zero goals.
NHS Supply Chain's catalogue is used by buyers and procurement teams within NHS Trusts, GP and dentistry surgeries, care homes, and other facilities.
With Spectricept Care+ Hands an alcohol-free, high-level, broad-spectrum disinfectant that contains HOCl as well as three non-active ingredients, the company said its patent-pending formulation gives it "superior lab-tested efficacy, product stability, and a markedly longer shelf life compared to other HOCl products".
It has proved effective against bacterial spores, including C-difficile, which is common in healthcare facilities and causes a potentially life-threatening gastrointestinal infection, as well as tuberculosis, viruses, yeasts, fungi and bacteria on skin.
Current national infection prevention guidelines for spores recommend soap and water as the best practice, however, as a new biocide, Spectricept Care+ Hands aims to reduce infection rates and improve patient care.
SpectrumX, which manufactures Spectricept hand rub and body wash in the UK and sources from sites from within a small radius of its facility in Cheshire, is currently looking to drum up funds in a pre-IPO offering.
