Avicanna Inc (TSX:AVCN, OTCQX:AVCNF) has announced the commercialization of its patent-pending, water-soluble technology ‘Influid’ with an initial Viola-branded beverage infuser SKU for the Canadian market.
The company said Influid utilizes nanotechnology to overcome the challenge of solubility and absorption of cannabinoids due to their hydrophobic properties, providing for infusion of a range of cannabinoids into various beverages.
Initially launched under the Viola brand in Ontario as a water-soluble THC infuser, Avicanna anticipates expanding across additional Canadian provinces beginning with New Brunswick and through medical channels, including the medical cannabis by Shoppers online platform in late 4Q 2022.

Benefits of the product according to Avicanna are that it is unflavored, unscented and can be mixed into any hot or cold beverage; it contains 500 mg of THC per bottle which is equivalent to 50 10 mg THC beverages; it is packaged into a portable 20 ml dropper bottle providing easy dosing of 0.5mg of THC per drop; and it serves as a solution for purchasing and dosing limitations to THC for beverages and edibles.
“Our research team continues to innovate and deliver new formulations with consumer experience in mind and we are excited to progress our proprietary water-soluble technology from the lab into initial commercial channels,” Avicanna's executive vice president of research and product development, Dr Frantz Le Devedec said in a statement.
“The limitations of currently available water-soluble formulations are their low drug loading, poor stability, and the difficulty in masking solubilizer flavors, whereas the Influid technology addresses all those gaps,” he continued.
Avicanna further noted that the Influid technology was available for commercialization and licensing opportunities through the company’s international commercial network.
