Primark to open four new stores as part of £140mln investment

Primark has announced a £140mln investment in its store portfolio leading to the opening of four new shops and the creation of at least 850 jobs.

Parent company Associated British Food said it plans to make the investment over the next two years in its UK operations.

The retailer is planning to open stores in Bury St Edmunds, Salisbury, Teeside Park and Craigavon.

Primark chief executive Paul Marchant said the investment demonstrated it was "playing a part in ensuring that UK retail continues to grow and thrive and give people another reason to visit their local high street.”

The expansion plans include refurbishing and upgrading stores in shopping malls, high streets and retail parks while the new shops will increase selling space by more than 160,000 square feet.

Alongside the new shops, Primark will extend and invest in existing stores and will relocate its Bradford and High Wycombe outlets.

Existing high street, shopping centre and retail parks stores are to be refurbished and upgraded with the funding.
