The number of parking fine tickets being issued has more than doubled in the past five years, according to a report by the RAC.
Some 176 parking firms issued 2.7mln parking fines between April and June, a rise of a million from 2021 and more than twice the same period in 2017.
Overpriced fees, cryptic signs and forceful debt collecting are the accusations levelled at private parking organisations.
Fearing some fines halving to £50 in an awaited government code of practice the rise of ticketing may be to cash in before it’s too late.
The Private Parking Code of Practice was withdrawn in June due to legal challenges from the parking firms.
“The attraction can only be one thing - the chance to make significant profits before the government brings in changes - which now appear delayed - to level the playing field” stated Steve Gooding, RAC director.
There are “a small number of cowboy companies” in operation a government spokeswoman revealed, Which? advise ignoring fines from companies not attached to trade bodies.
ParkingEye were the busiest firm purchasing 521,000 records from DVLA to identify fine recipients.
