Rail workers from 14 companies have voted in favour of continuing strike action, potentially causing a further six months of disruption for commuters.
Members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) voted 91% in favour of the strike mandate for further action.
“This union is determined to continue with this campaign until the employers understand that they need to respond to our members' aspirations on job security, pay and working conditions," said RMT general secretary Mick Lynch.
Eight days of industrial action has been carried out this year since June, causing extended disruption for commuters, with three days of intended strikes in early November still managing to cause issues across the country despite being cancelled.
RMT added that it had beaten “draconian anti-trade union laws” which requires 40% of essential transport workers who are eligible to vote to support action, outlining that 64.4% had done so.
