Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) has been ordered to pay VLSI Technology LLC US$948.8mln for infringing a VLSI patent to improve computer processor performance, a federal jury in Texas said on Tuesday.
VLSI had said Intel's Cascade Lake and Skylake microprocessors violated its patent covering improvements to data processing.
Intel said it "strongly disagrees" with the verdict and plans to appeal, Reuters reported, citing an Intel spokesperson.
The trial was the latest chapter in the intellectual property feud between the two companies.
VLSI won an almost US$2.2bn verdict from Intel in a separate Texas trial last year over different chip patents, while VLSI lost another patent trial against Intel the following month.
VLSI is a patent-holding company affiliated with the SoftBank Group Corp-owned private equity firm Fortress Investment Group.
