Purplebricks rebel wants former Countrywide boss as chair

Tech-led estate agency Purplebricks slumped to a loss of £8.8mln in the year to April

Purplebricks Group PLC (AIM:PURP) said it has received a request for a general meeting from shareholders who want to replace chairman Paul Pindar with former Countrywide (LSE:CWD) boss Harry Hill.

Lecram Holdings has tabled the motion, which Purplebricks added it is reviewing for legal validity.

In a statement, Purplebricks added that the rest of the board had reaffirmed its support for Pindar, adding he also has the backing of a number of major shareholders including publishing group Axel Springer, which has a 26.5% stake.

Axel Spinger has confirmed it will vote against the proposed resolution for his removal as a director, the statement added.

Tech-led estate agency Purplebricks slumped to a loss of £8.8mln in the year to April and admitted its performance recently "has not been good enough".

Since then, it has appointed two new non-execs and a new chief financial officer.

In its statement, it said: “The board is firmly of the view that the board changes proposed by the Requisition are not in the best interests of the company or its shareholders.

“Within the company's full-year 22 results announcement, published on 2 August 2022, a clear plan was set out to improve business performance, return to positive cash flow and profitability, and build a scalable business model.

“The board considers that Lecram Holdings Limited's decision to lodge the Requisition is disruptive when the company and its executive team are focused on delivery of this turnaround plan."

Harry Hill was chief executive and then chairman of Countrywide (LSE:CWD) as well as later chairing online property agent Rightmove.
