OVO Energy announced its participation in UK Power Networks’ ‘Neat Heat’ project on Tuesday, offering zero emissions boilers to customers for free.
OVO customers in the south east and east of England can register to have a boiler, developed and built by cleantech company tepeo, installed into their homes free of charge.
tepeo’s boilers work like batteries, according to OVO, charging at the cheapest and greenest times during the day and storing the heat until it is needed.
It is expected that the boilers, funded by UK Power Networks, will allow customers to cut carbon emissions by 40% during the 12-month trial, which starts from when they sign up.
‘Neat Heat’ credits will also be offered to customers on the trials, allowing energy rates of as low as 12p/kWh when charging the boilers, far below the current guaranteed price of 34p/kWh.
OVO chief executive Raman Bhatia said: “Neat Heat drives forward our commitment to promoting zero carbon living and a sustainable future, whilst helping our customers to lower their energy bills.”
This comes after National Grid PLC (LSE:NG.) announced its ‘Demand Flexibility Service’, aimed at saving customers with smart meters £100 in energy bills if they reduce energy consumption during peak times on 12 trial days between November and March 2023.
