Loungers announces roadside café launch

Sites will predominantly be located on A roads, such as the A38 and A303 for the first three locations

Loungers PLC (AIM:LGRS) said its first new roadside café, Brightside, will open in February 2023 just south of Exeter.

Two additional locations will follow in Spring, the operator of café-bars and restaurants under the Lounges and Cosy Club brands announced in a statement.

Loungers believes there is “great potential to reinvigorate roadside dining in the UK”, which it said has become tired and uninspiring.

Sites will predominantly be located on A roads, such as the A38 and A303 for the first three locations.

Brightside’s menu will include brunch options, burgers and pizzas, and will appeal to a broad range of customers and offer an alternative to the drive-thru and quick-service restaurants currently seen roadside, it said.

"We've had the itch for a while now to create a roadside restaurant concept that's fit-for-purpose in the twenty-first century,” said founder chairman Alex Reilley.

“For many people, the highlight of childhood road trips in days gone by was a stop at the likes of Little Chef.”

“We believe there is a gap in the market for a fresh concept that gives customers the option to take a proper break and enjoy wholesome food and great hospitality, in a landscape that is currently dominated by drive-thru and QSR formats.”

The group, which currently operates 175 Lounges and 35 Cosy Club venues, is targeting 30 new restaurant openings in its current financial year.
