Caledonia Mining Corporation PLC (AIM:CMCL, NYSE-A:CMCL) chief executive Mark Learmonth speaks to Proactive after announcing the acquisition of Motapa Mining, which holds a mining lease over exploration property in southern Zimbabwe adjacent to the Bilboes gold project that Caledonia is in the process of acquiring.
With the AIM-listed company's Blanket mine further south of the country fully operational and expected to produce between 73,000 and 80,000 ounces this financial year, it is now working to set up Bilboes and Motapa as a "brand new gold belt".
Learmonth says that the immediate focus of Caledonia will be on "turning Bilboes to account" and that Motapa will be an "evolving work in progress" that will take several years to come to fruition.
