archTIS Ltd has been subcontracted by KPMG’s technology arm to provide key scaffolding for the first chapter of Australia’s OneDefence Data Program.
The contract (valued at $230,000) represents the first work order of its kind for a multi-stage program aimed at improving Australian Defence data practices.
Through the work order, archTIS will provide guidance on secure, data-centric architecture that will support the defence program. The contract runs until December 16, 2022.
The story so far
In April this year, then-Assistant Minister for Defence Andrew Hastie announced the government had acquired the first tranche of the OneDefence Data Program, designed to help the defence industry better manage data as a strategic warfighting asset.
Hastie said strong data practices were critical to the future of information warfare and the conduct of military operations.
“Our data management is vital to protecting Australia’s national interests, but it is also vital in times of war, ensuring that we have access to the right information at the critical moment,” he explained.
“This investment will deliver secure and resilient information systems to better enable information sharing and collaboration across government and with Australia’s strategic partners.
“It will also ensure we can exploit the data generated by our military drones, aircraft, land vehicles and maritime vessels.”
archTIS shares its expertise
As the preferred systems integrator, KPMG Technologies was selected to lead a consortium of vendors — including Oracle, Microsoft, archTIS and others — to deliver the investments outlined in the program’s data strategy.
Fast forward to today and archTIS has been contracted through KPMG to:
- identify and manage risk processes;
- oversee the QA of architecture and design governance; and
- support the architecture design, governance and security accreditation process required to implement secure, datacentric architecture.
