Shree Minerals pursues gold, nickel, REE opportunities in Australia’s highest growth gold district

Laverton contains some 30 million ounces of gold, making it the second-highest endowed gold district in Western Australia behind Kalgoorlie.

Shree Minerals Ltd (ASX:SHH) hopes to bolster its landholding on the hunt for gold, nickel and rare earth elements (REEs) in Australia’s highest-growth gold district.

The multi-element explorer has secured a 100% interest in seven tenement applications — spanning 6,600 hectares — in WA’s iconic Laverton Province.

Laverton contains some 30 million ounces of gold, making it the second-highest endowed gold district in Western Australia behind Kalgoorlie.

More broadly, the region hosts several important gold and nickel deposits, including:

  • Sunrise Dam (more than 10 million ounces)
  • Wallaby (more than 8 million ounces)
  • Granny Smith (more than 2 million ounces, currently closed)
  • Lancefield (more than 2 million ounces, currently closed)
  • Windara Nickel (combined 85,000 tonnes of nickel sulphide)

Lynas Rare Earth also operates the Mt Weld REE operation only 2 kilometres south of Shree’s application.

What’s next?

Shree is focused on getting the Laverton tenements granted — a process that includes negotiating access contracts and reaching heritage agreements with the native title holders.

With this in mind, the explorer hopes to have the properties in hand by 2023.

In the meantime, desktop studies will get underway to firm up future exploration plans.

Down the line, Shree hopes to prospect Laverton’s undercover gold and nickel targets, as well as discovery opportunities near the region’s famous neighbours.
