Air fryer sales soar as consumers cut energy bills

Sales of air fryers, microwaves and slow cookers jump by 80%

Sales of air fryers, microwaves and slow cookers, which all consume less energy than conventional ovens, have soared 80% compared to last year, according to GfK market research.

According to the energy saving trust, 20% of an average household’s energy consumption happens in the kitchen.

Demand for other goods has also massively increased, with slippers and thermal clothing becoming more sought after.

Alongside this, 216% more electric blankets were purchased last month compared to September 2021.

With winter fast approaching and the prospect of uncharacteristically high energy bills, consumers are turning to lower energy-consuming goods to tackle the rise.

“Despite such a mild autumn, buyers are already investing heavily in products to help through what is expected to be an incredibly challenging winter,” said Kelly Whitwick, GfK’s head of retail insights.
