Ford calls time on the Fiesta - Britain's best-selling car

The Fiesta was a favourite among women and as a second family car

Ford Europe has confirmed it is to stop making the Fiesta, the UK’s best-selling car.

Production will come to a halt at the company’s Cologne plant in Germany at the end of June 2023, with the carmaker gearing up to switch its range to electric models going forward.

A favourite among women and as a second family car, more than 4.8mln Fiestas have been sold in Britain since its launch in 1976, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers

It outsold the Ford Escort, the UK’s second favourite car by over a million models while more than 22mln have been produced globally since 1976.

The Fiesta was also acknowledged by its peers with the car receiving awards from the British Design Council and the respected Golden Steering Wheel in Germany.

Ford’s entire range is going all-electric by 2035 with three car models and four commercial vehicles scheduled to launch in 2024.
