FTSE ticks down but stays buoyant - Market Report

The FTSE 100 ticked down in early trading, but remained close to three-week highs. Rishi Sunak’s appointment as PM appears to be stabilising the markets after several tumultuous weeks.

HSBC reported a 42% year-on-year fall in profits to 3.5bn US Dollars during the three months to September 30th.

Online retailer THG reported a slowdown in growth, but remained confident of hitting its full-year targets.

Premier Inn owner Whitbread said strong trading leaves it confident in its full year outlook. Statutory profit before tax for the half-year to 1 September was above pre-pandemic levels and ahead of expectations.

Shoe Zone raised its full-year profit forecast again and announced that shareholders will receive a second interim dividend. The footwear retailer said it expects adjusted pre-tax profits for the year to 1 October 2022 to be at least £11mln.

In mining, the results of an expert review on the Pitfield copper project in Western Australia suggest that Empire Metals are sitting on a “giant” mineralised system.

And Sunrise Resources said that Tolsa USA received approval from the US Bureau of Land Management for its proposed trenching programme at the company's Pioche Sepiolite Project in Nevada.
