BT Group PLC (LSE:BT.A) and Openreach workers will be on strike today as the long-running dispute over pay rumbles on.
Members of the Communication Workers Union, including 999 call handlers, will walk out for 24 hours, adding to the growing list of strikes that started in July.
Prior to 29 July BT had not faced industrial action for nearly 40 years.
Since then, two further strikes were held at the end of August and three more in October followed by today’s action.
CWU said that BT “imposed” a 5% pay rise, or £1,500, below UK inflation of 10.1% and 3% lower than an offer made in April, which the company claimed was its biggest pay rise in over 20 years.
Dave Ward, General Secretary of the CWU, said that the union is “never going to walk away from this".
Britain's summer of discontent is slowly moving towards a winter of restlessness as strikes across a raft of industries continue.
Members of Royal Mail, now International Distributions Services, have several days of strikes planned for the remainder of the year, including the busy Black Friday weekend.
More rail strikes are also going ahead next week, affecting services across the entire country.
