Welcome Break has apologised to motorists after its services station on the M62 between Huddersfield and Bradford was named the worst in the UK.
In a survey of motorway services carried out by watchdog Transport Focus, Hartshead Moor East received 80% for customer satisfaction, though comments on Tripadvisor (NASDAQ:TRIP) suggest that might have been generous.
Customer service is routinely described as appalling, with staff at the concession said to be variously bored, uninterested and the quality of the food like a throwback to the sixties.
Welcome Break, which is owned by Irish group Applegreen, said it was “very disappointed” with the survey’s results.
“We have received the detailed comments from Transport Focus and we will be working closely with our teams to address the feedback from the report as well as prioritising the site for future investment,” it added.
Moto-run Rugby services on the M6 in Warwickshire was the best place to rest up, according to the survey.
The service station received a score of 100% with another Moto-run outlet, Donington Park on the M1, getting 99% for customer satisfaction.
Anthony Smith, chief executive at Transport Focus, said: “Congratulations to Moto Rugby services. Visitors rated the toilets highly, liked the look of the services and found the staff helpful and friendly.
Edmund King, president of the AA, said the provision of electric vehicle chargers at Rugby is “the sort of facilities all motorway service areas should have”.
