Amazon founder Jeff Bezos says consumers will 'batten down the hatches'

Amazon shares closed higher regardless of the comments from the company's founding CEO

Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos suggested in a tweet that he expected US consumers will need to adjust for difficult economic times ahead.

In response to Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) chief executive David Solomon saying consumers should behave more cautiously as there is a good chance of a recession, the owner of the multinational technology company said “the probabilities in this economy tell you to batten down the hatches”.

Yep, the probabilities in this economy tell you to batten down the hatches. https://t.co/SwldRdms5v

Shares in Amazon were not affected by the comments, closing 2.3% higher overnight at US$116.4p, and in pre-market trading rising another 0.6% to US$117.1.
