FTSE opens lower and inflation hits 40-year high - Market Report

FTSE 100 edged slightly lower in early trading.

Inflation jumped back to 10.1% in September as the economy grappled with a plummeting pound following Kwasi Kwarteng’s mini-budget.

Antofagasta weighed in with a 40% increase in output in the third quarter. However, it warned that it would only scrape in at the lower end of production guidance for the year.

Just Eat was ahead of previous expectations and is on track towards its long-term target margins. Gross transaction value rose 2%, driven by strong forex movements.

Asos swung to a nearly £10mln loss for the year as it faced a tough consumer climate and troubles with its own finances. It expects to remain in the red in the first half of 2023.

Cambridge Cognition announced a £1.1mln contract with a major pharmaceutical company. It will provide electronic clinical outcome assessments and hardware for a rare blood disease study running over two years.

Technology Minerals agreed on terms to acquire the outstanding shares in its associate Recyclus. Over 900mln shares will be issued to partners at just over 4p each.

Shanta Gold said any offer from Yintai will be solely in cash. It did not provide any information regarding bids from Shandong Gold or UK-listed Chaarat Gold.
