Deep-South Resources plans geochemical soil sampling programs for three copper projects in Zambia

The program consists of geochemical soil sampling on each license with the aim to identify anomalies and define drilling targets, the company said

Deep-South Resources Inc (TSX-V:DSM) has issued an update on its exploration programs in Zambia, revealing its soil sampling programs for three exploration licenses.

Back in July, the company closed a deal to acquire up to an 80% undivided interest in three copper large-scale exploration licenses in the Zambian copper belt and a month later filed project environmental briefs with the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) Project Environmental Briefs for each license.

Now, the company is awaiting approval and expects to appoint a sampling contractor. Once those steps are met, the company can begin its planned program of 3,627 geochemical soil samples.

The program consists of geochemical soil sampling on each license with the aim to identify anomalies and define drilling targets, the company said.

One of the licenses, the Luanshya West project, covers 5,423.26 hectares and is located between basement granites and lower roan group sediments. That’s where most copper belt mines in both Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo are located, the company noted.

Some 850 soil samples and geophysical data were collected over the subject property by Teal (a subsidiary of African Rainbow Minerals Ltd) between 2007 and 2009 and identified at least four large anomalies. Deep-South’s program will consist of 820 soil samples collected in an identical manner over a roughly 30-day period.

Meanwhile, the company’s Chililabombwe project is situated in the north of the Zambia copper belt near the DRC border and covers 2,200 hectares. The program will consist of 132 soil samples

Its Mpongwe project is located in the center of the copper belt and covers 67,500 hectares. The planned program consists of 2,675 soil samples.

Deep-South noted that mineral resources have not been estimated on the projects, given that they have not demonstrated economic viability at this stage. The historical geophysical survey and sampling results have demonstrated potential to classify the Luanshya West project as one of merit but are considered too speculative to complete a NI 43-101 compliant resource estimation.
