China was due to release third-quarter data on gross domestic product (GDP) early this morning but the figures have been withheld.
Beijing's National Bureau of Statistics delayed publication of the GDP update overnight, as the ruling Communist Party continues its national congress gathering.
As part of the wider economic bulletin, alongside the quarterly GDP numbers, data on retail and property sales and fixed-asset investment were also meant to be released. Economists expect retail sales to have contracted in September.
The website of the China statistics office said the releases were all “delayed” as of Monday, along with a house price report due on Wednesday.
China's GDP was forecast to have rebounded 3.5% in the third quarter from 0.4% in the second quarter, as the economy reopened after the Omicron wave of coronavirus lockdowns.
Last week the International Monetary Fund forecast that Chinese GDP will expand by just 3.2% this year, down from 8.1% in 2021.
