Westar Resources Ltd (ASX:WSR) welcomes the start of a second round of RC drilling by farm-in/JV partner Ramelius Resources Limited (ASX:RMS) at the Mt Finnerty Project, north of Southern Cross in Western Australia.
Reverse circulation (RC) drilling is planned at the Flinders and Tasman prospects to improve the geological model and establish potential controls on high-grade mineralisation.
This work by Ramelius is following up on first-round drilling success that included 5 metres at 66.7 g/t gold from 175 metres at Flinders and 13 metres at 4.37 g/t from 182 metres at Tasman.
Ramelius shares conviction
Westar managing director Karl Jupp said: “The initial RC program was designed around historical intercepts and delivered exceptional results at both the Flinders and Tasman prospects.
"We’re delighted that Ramelius share our conviction for the potential of high-grade primary hosted mineralisation and are demonstrating their committed to the project with a substantial follow-up drilling program.”
The new RC program will consist of about 4,000 metres to test along strike and down plunge continuity of mineralisation at Flinders and Tasman.
About Mt Finnerty
Mt Finnerty, which is about 200 kilometres northeast of Edna May, covers more than 9 kilometres of greenstone-granite contact that has been subject to limited modern-day exploration and is in close proximity to the regional Mount Dimer Shear Zone.
Locality map of Mt Finnerty in the Southern Cross Region of Western Australia.
Historic exploration on the project includes regional and follow-up aircore drilling and selective deeper RC drilling with best results including 9 metres at 98.2 g/t gold from 62 metres and 24 metres at 3.68 g/t from 45 metres.
Initial RC drilling by Ramelius targeted areas of best previous anomalism, with new intersections demonstrating deeper primary hosted mineralisation.
High-grade results
Furthermore, results from the initial program extended the zone of mineralisation to the south of the Flinders Prospect, with the 13-metre intercept at the Tasman Prospect.
High-grade results from the initial drilling include:
Flinders -
- 1-metre at 10.5 g/t gold from 109 metres;
- 5 metres at 66.7 g/t from 175 metres, including 1-metre at 52.4 g/t from 176 metres and also including 1-metre at 274 g/t from 177 metres;
- 4 metres at 14.1 g/t from 136 metres, including 1-metre at 43.4 g/t from 137 metres;
- 1-metre at 35.0 g/t from 125 metres; and
- 5 metres at 1.67 g/t from 168 metres.
Tasman -
- 5 metres at 2.63 g/t gold from 146 metres; and
- 13 metres at 4.37 g/t from 182 metres.
Mt Finnerty is subject to a Farm-in and Joint Venture Agreement between Ramelius and Rouge Resources Pty Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Westar Resources. It forms part of Westar’s Southern Cross Project.
