SpectrumX Holdings UK Ltd, a UK-based healthcare and pharmaceuticals company, has launched a new disinfectant to combat c.diff infections in hospitals.
The company claims Spectricept HLD Body Mist is 99.99% effective against potentially antimicrobial-resistant bacteria, especially c.difficile (CDI) which is commonly seen in healthcare settings.
According to Public Health England, cases of CDI increased from 21.9 to 25.8 cases per 100,000 people from January 2021 to May 2022 and have become the most common cause of infectious bacterial diarrhoea in hospital patients.
A patient with active CDI discharges millions of bacterial spores that can survive for at least six months in dust and on surfaces and that are able to withstand dehydration, alcohol and many other disinfectants.
SpectrumX’s product provides an alternative to soap and water, which has previously been seen as the best defence against such bacteria.

SpectrumX hopes the body wash, which is already available on a pilot scheme, will help reduce the amount of PPE wasted in healthcare facilities as well as tackling CDI.
