Kwasi Kwarteng has ‘stepped aside’ from his position as Chancellor of the Exchequer, replaced by former foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt, less than a month after his disastrous mini-budget which has seen the government perform u-turn after u-turn.
2. Royal Mail slapped with a downgrade which sent shares tumbling
Analysts at City broker Peel Hunt said the operating loss forecast for the Royal Mail unit was worse than it had been predicting and was at the bearish end of consensus.
