NatWest to close 43 branches as it fully transitions towards online banking

It claimed that just six jobs were at risk from the planned closures, with most staff being offered the chance to work in another branch or in a different part of the lender

NatWest Group PLC (LSE:NWG) said Thursday it will be closing 43 branches across the UK as it continues transitioning towards online banking services.

UK’s second largest lender insisted most of its banking services can be done quicker and easier digitally than in person.

Just six jobs were at risk from the planned closures, it added, with most staff being offered the chance to work in another branch or in a different aspect of the bank.

Many of the branches to be axed are in Scotland, including Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

NatWest promised that “no one is [to be] left behind,” while acknowledging some concerns customers may have.

It vowed to contact its vulnerable and elderly customers to help them following the announcement.
