Genflow receives grant for anti-ageing project in Estonia

The programme is targeting patients who suffer from Werner’s syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis

Genflow Biosciences PLC (LSE:GENF) said it received a non-dilutive grant award of €250,000 for its anti-ageing research and development programme in Estonia in collaboration with IVEX, an Estonian biotech therapeutics company.

The grant was awarded by the Applied Research Programme of Enterprise Estonia, an Estonian government institution. Under the funded programme, Genflow and IVEX intend to “create precise tools to evaluate the effect of Genflow’s gene therapy drug candidates”.

According to a statement, they will be “focusing on the development of an anti-ageing gene therapy platform designed to target nearly 100mln patients worldwide”.

Specifically, the programme is targeting patients who suffer from Werner’s syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, and other clinical disorders, it said.

Additionally, the anti-ageing project hopes to develop a series of alternative novel gene therapy platforms in collaboration with the University of Tartu, with initial results anticpated in the third quarter of 2023.

Genflow said the grant will accelerate the company’s anti-ageing project and expedite the company’s own drug development programme.

“The grant will enhance Genflow's future therapeutic developments and boost the company's pre-clinical drug discovery and research initiatives, aimed at assisting people to live longer, healthier lives,” said Genflow founder and chief executive Dr Eric Leire.
