ReNeuron Group data points to effectiveness of its ground-breaking technology

The company attended an industry summit in Boston where it shared the findings of research on its CustomEx exosomes

ReNeuron Group PLC said its stem cell-derived system was shown to be significantly more effective at getting siRNA protein to its target than the competing means of getting it there.

Data unveiled at an industry meeting in Boston showed ReNeuron’s CustomEx technology recorded a 600% increase in delivery compared with HEK approach.

Both systems use exosomes, microscopic sacks of fluids generated by all cells that carry nucleic acids, proteins, lipids and metabolites, to carry the payload.

But where human embryonic kidney-derived, or HEK exosomes, essentially represent a one-size-fits-all approach, ReNeuron’s exosomes can be refined to be extremely targeted and therefore much more effective in their task.

"This represents a significant advance in the potential use of human stem cell-derived exosomes as delivery vectors for complex drug modalities, with this new data highlighting the significant improvement in uptake and delivery of a payload that can be achieved by customising the exosome type to maximise payload delivery to the desired cell type,” said Dr Randolph Corteling, the company’s chief scientific officer, referring to the latest research update.

More information was also presented at the Extracellular Vesicle-Based Therapeutic Development Summit on the company's continued work in the delivery of brain-derived neurotrophic factor using exosomes.
