PyroGenesis Canada Inc announced that its Gen3 PUREVAP Quartz Reduction Reactor (QRR) pilot plant has completed its month-long power-up process, acknowledging a press release from its technology partner HPQ Silicon Inc.
The QRR plant, the first prototype of its kind, is now testing its ground-breaking one-step transformation of quartz into high-purity silicon with a series of optimization and repeatability tests, the company said.
“Completing the power-up and initiating operational testing of the pilot plant represents a major milestone in our relationship with HPQ and demonstrates our commitment to advancing the PUREVAP project while also underscoring our ability and dedication to bring real-world concepts from the lab to commercialization,” PyroGenesis CEO Peter Pascali said in a statement.

As part of its contract with HPQ, PyroGenesis benefits from a royalty payment representing 10% of the company’s sales, with set minimums.

PyroGenesis Canada is a leader in the design, development, manufacture and commercialization of advanced plasma processes and sustainable solutions which reduce greenhouse gases. Its technology is suited for iron ore pelletization, aluminum, waste management and additive manufacturing.
