John Lewis Partnership said it is committing to more rental services as it doubles down on pledges to “protect and restore nature”.
Following on from yesterday's dress rental partnership agreement with Hurr, the retailer pledged to continue to develop more rental, resale, and return opportunities to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.
Additional commitments to tackle climate change also include zero deforestation in sourcing key commodities for Waitrose and John Lewis’ own brand products and a £2mln investment in ecosystem protection and regeneration projects in the UK and India through a partnership with the WWF, it said.
“We all know that we can’t exist without nature, it is essential for our survival and it will play a vital role in solving the problem of climate change,” said Marija Rompani, director of ethics and sustainability.
“This is why we’re going back to our roots and focusing our efforts on protecting and restoring nature.”
“Whether it’s eliminating fossil fuel use across our transport operations, investing millions in conservation projects in regions where we source our products, or helping our farmers make the transition to net zero, we are acting where we can make the biggest impact.”
Leading climate experts, according to John Lewis, say global greenhouse emissions must be reduced by 43% by 2030 to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.
