Poolbeg Pharma PLC (AIM:POLB, OTCQB:POLBF) has strengthened the protection around the intellectual property supporting POLB 001, a drug candidate for severe influenza.
Specifically, the group has secured the sign-off from the US Patent and Trademarks Office for its main claim around the treatment of hypercytokinemia, commonly known as a cytokine storm.
The company said expects to receive the formal patent grant "in due course".
Chief executive Jeremy Skillington said: “Enhanced IP protection of our assets across key markets, such as the US, increases the overall value of these products to potential partners.
“This is particularly important as we move closer to the completion of our POLB 001 LPS human challenge trial, with initial results expected by year-end 2022."
